Hi, I’m Jim Kinney, founder of
As a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), my job is to help people maintain and grow their wealth while creating a realistic plan for the future. It might be detailed planning for retirement, college financial planning, basic financial planning for a young couple, — whatever your unique goal or need, it’s achievable with the right plan in place.
You might wonder whether working with a Certified Financial Planner(tm) matters. Well, it really does. Many who call themselves “financial planners” have done nothing to justify that designation. Truthfully anyone can call themselves a financial planner.
CFPs(r) represent a high level of competency, ethics and professionalism. By becoming a Certified Financial Planner, I’ve fulfilled comprehensive requirements for experience, knowledge, and ethical standards as established by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. Learn more about the CFP certification and why it matters at www.cfp.net.
As a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) I have taken the commitment to objectivity and fairness in the practice of financial planning to an even higher level. NAPFA members are held to an even higher standard of fiduciary responsibility and have an even more rigid continuing education requirement than other CFP’s.
Certification and education is important, but so is experience. In addition to 11 years in the financial planning field, I have started, grown, managed, and sold a successful international manufacturing business. I’ve put several of my own kids through college. But the career achievement of which I am most proud is that I’ve been able to help so many of my financial planning clients achieve their retirement dreams.
Call me at (866)-635-8518, or send me an email using the form on this page. Don’t worry – we don’t do sales pressure, and there is never any obligation. Just tell us what you are trying to achieve and we will see what we can do to help. I look forward to speaking with you.
Below is a brief outline of my experience and credentials…

Entrepreneur/Business Operations/Finance. Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of Shore to Shore Inc. of Dayton, Ohio. Successfully grew this kitchen table start up into a leading international supplier of garment tags and labels with a focus on international supply chain logistics and UPC data management solutions. I sold my interest in 2003 to pursue other professional interests.
After selling my interest in Shore to Shore, I began informally helping family and friends with their personal finances. An offer from a friend who was a CFP lured me into the profession on a full time basis and I started working toward my CFP certification. In 2007 I started my own firm, Financial Pathways in its present location. We have been growing successfully, as people increasingly are looking for alternatives to the product sales oriented approach still common in the industry. Luba Globerman joined the firm as partner in 2009.
Married to Laura for 27 years with 4 school and college aged children ages 18 through 25. In my spare time I am actively involved as a scouting volunteer (Assistant Scoutmaster) and enjoy fly fishing, hiking, gardening, and the great outdoors.
